There were several star performers for Manchester City in their 6-nil win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road yesterday. Kevin De Bruyne turned back the clock as his strong recent form continued. Ilkay Gundogan and Mateo Kovacic were both superb in midfield. Jeremy Doku played arguably his best game for the club during yesterday’s match. There was a maturity to his play, and he showed that his game is developing, which is good news for Manchester City going forward.

At times during his Manchester City career, Jeremy Doku’s end product has been the source of frustration. At times, his decision-making in the final third is lacking. But yesterday, against Ipswich Town, Doku put all of the pieces of his game together. He was a constant threat to the Tractor Boys’ defence, and his link-up play with Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden was a feature of City’s first-half dominance. Doku scored one and set up Erling Haaland for City’s fifth goal of the evening in the second half. When Doku plays like he did yesterday he is unplayable. The hope is now that his performance yesterday can become something we see from the dazzling winger on a regular basis.

Speaking after his team’s emphatic win Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the performance put in by Jeremy Doku. He told the media that Doku was brilliant as he continued his strong recent form. Guardiola explained: “Today he was brilliant, and I’m really pleased for him. Today we played Jeremy there because he was training good, and against Salford in the FA Cup he played really good as well. Always Jeremy has doubts about his consistency every three days, because of injuries simple as that. For the way we play and in the final third, to have a player that can dribble one or two central defenders, the scenario is open and completely different to attack in the final third and today he was brilliant, really good.

At his best Jeremy Doku is unplayable. We saw that yesterday as he played arguably his best game for Manchester City at Portman Road. The Belgian international is beginning to become a devastating weapon for Pep Guardiola’s side. The hope is he can now become a more consistent player for the Premier League champions. Cause if he does City will have a bonafide match winner on their hands.
