Out-of-favor Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes has admitted he is no longer happy with his life at the Stadio Olimpico. The 30-year-old has tumbled down the pecking order after the Giallorossi sacked Daniele De Rossi in mid-September.

De Rossi’s successor, Ivan Juric, has nailed Paredes to the bench. Indeed, the ex-Zenit St Petersburg star has only made four Serie A appearances as a substitute since September. However, Juric’s dismissal after a 3-2 home defeat to Bologna last weekend could turn Paredes’ fortunes around.

“I live my life and my career day by day,” Paredes told ESPN after joining Argentina during November’s international break. “Obviously, there were a lot of rumours, but I only think about my club. I was very happy until De Rossi was here, then the manager thing happened. Now, we change again.“

Despite his form wobble at Roma, Paredes has retained his place in the national team under Lionel Scaloni. He’ll try to help La Albiceleste overcome Paraguay and Peru in November’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers before returning to Italy later this month.

It’s still uncertain who will be in the dugout when Roma return to Serie A action against Napoli on November 24. Former Cagliari boss Claudio Ranieri has emerged as the leading candidate for the job, even though he retired from club management at the end of last season.

After helping Cagliari protect their top-flight status, the 73-year-old called time on his managerial career. But Roma could bring him back from retirement to salvage their campaign.
