‘Paixao a thorn in the side of Milan’ – Dutch media react after Feyenoord make history | OneFootball

Feyenoord beat Milan in the first leg of the Champions League play-off tie last night at De Kuip, and the Dutch media are celebrating as a result.

They have a reason to be jovial too given that Feyenoord lost their star striker Santiago Gimenez to Milan in the winter window and then sacked their head coach on Monday, meaning a caretaker took charge.

Not only that but they fully deserved the win too, overwhelming the Rossoneri with a first-half performance full of intensity and fight. It had been over 50 years since the Dutch club had won a match in the knockout phase of the competition, too.

Sportwereld in the Netherlands have rightly praised Feyenoord’s performance with the headline ‘Smiles at De Kuip’ on the front page, choosing Igor Paixao as the cover man, who not only scored the opening goal but was also nearly unplayable.

Paixao also ended up on the front pages of Telesport, which this morning ran the headline: ‘Paixao makes fun of Milan’. There is no doubting that he was the best player on the field, causing Kyle Walker no end of problems with his direct runs and his tricky, also hitting the bar in the first half.
