George Boyd signed for Peterborough from non-league Stevenage and went on to earn three promotions with the club and make over 300 appearances.
George Boyd is considered a modern-day club legend at Peterborough United.
When the winger returned to London Road back in 2019, the reception he earned from the loyal Peterborough United supporters was fantastic, and it truly displayed the impact he once had on the club.
Boyd has played 101 Premier League games with Burnley and Hull City, and earned promotions from the Championship with both clubs, but despite all of that, it is safe to say that Peterborough United saw the best version of him.
The Posh signed him back in 2008 when he was a 21-year-old, and, despite the hype that came with his name at such a young age, there was never a guarantee that he would set the world alight at London Road.
However, if there were ever any doubters, they were soon proved wrong as Boyd went on to become one of Peterborough United's best players in the last two decades.
Boyd started his senior career at Stevenage, who were in non-league at the time, and he very quickly became a fan favourite on Broadhall Way. Despite leaving the club at just 21 years old, the wide player made over 100 appearances and was consistently one of the best players on the pitch in the Conference.
It did seem only a matter of time until Boyd would go on to bigger and better things, and sure enough, Peterborough United attempted to swoop in while they were in League Two.
Stevenage initially rejected an offer for their star youngster, but when the Posh came in with a £260,000 offer, it was to good to turn down as the Hertfordshire club sanctioned a deal for Boyd to move to the EFL.
It was a lot of money for the time, and was a record fee in the Conference, so it was certainly a gamble for Peterborough, but fortunately it paid off.
It took almost no time at all for Boyd to adapt to life in the EFL, as he immediately became a regular starter for the Posh in the remainder of the 2006/07 campaign, contributing to nine goals in 20 games.
This really set the precedent for Boyd's next few years at London Road, as over the next two campaigns, he helped the side achieve back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship, under the guidance of Darren Ferguson.
The winger's performances in the Championship for Peterborough were nothing short of exceptional, and as a result, he was receiving interest from elsewhere, with Middlesbrough looking to sign him.
However, after a move fell through, he strangely went on loan to Nottingham Forest in the Championship until the end of the season, while the Posh suffered relegation to League One.
The 2010/11 campaign in League One was Boyd's best in terms of goal contributions of his career, as he scored 15 league goals and assisted a further 10 to ensure that Peterborough returned to the Championship, subsequently earning a third promotion with the club.
The Posh managed to keep hold of Boyd for two more seasons, and he would continue his form in front of goal by contributing to a total of 33 goals over two Championship campaigns before finally departing for Hull City where he would go on to play in the Premier League.
The wide player was a memorable figure at Peterborough United, and without him in the squad for a lengthy period of time, they may have struggled to get some of their promotions over the line.
