UEFA Europa League, Matchday 8, 30/01/25
OGC Nice came from behind against Bodo/Glimt to secure a draw in the final game of their 2024/25 UEFA Europa League campaign (1-1) as they crashed out of the competition having failed to register a win.
The quality of the football on the pitch matched the atmosphere around this game. With Nice already eliminated, only around 7,000 fans were inside the Allianz Riviera, with the travelling Norwegian fans making up a significant portion of that weak attendance. Amid torrential conditions, neither side really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.
Le Gym didn’t muster a single chance of note, whilst Hakon Evjen hit the post for Bodo/Glimt, who, unlike Nice, had something to play for on the night – a place in the top eight. It was the Norwegian side that took the lead early in the second half. It was Gaëtan Laborde, on at half-time, who made the error, looking to be intricate after intercepting a corner. His attempt to go past his man was telegraphed and the rebound found Fredrik André Bjorkan inside the box. He kept his cool to finish first time past Maxime Dupé, in for first-choice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka.
However, having got their goal, they want into game management mode but they couldn’t see the result over the line. They were caught napping as Badredine Bouanani crashed into the box, finishing Laborde’s cut-back. However, neither side could find a winner. It means that Nice end their European campaign without a single win and second from bottom of the table.
Maxime Dupé – 5
Mohamed Abdelmonem – 4
Moïse Bombito – 7
Nice’s best player and quite comfortably, he made two key interceptions, was well-positioned throughout and was also progressive and incisive with his distribution. A strong performance on his return from injury.
Yaël Nandjou – 3
An error-strewn performance from the academy product, who was caught out of possession on several occasions and was sloppy in possession before being replaced by Jonathan Clauss on the hour mark.
Ali Abdi – 4
Issiaga Camara – 6
The academy product adds a bit of bite in midfield and he did that again against Bodo/Glimt. He also showed progression in his in-possession play on the night, often providing an option in build-up and using the ball well, not always choosing the conservative option and looking to put Nice on the front foot.
Sofiane Diop – 5
Antoine Mendy – 5
Badredine Bouanani – 6
Youssoufa Moukoko – 3
Fares Bousnina – 3
Completely disconnected from his teammates, he was logically replaced at the break by Gaëtan Laborde (4). Responsible for Bodo/Glimt’s goal, he somewhat atoned for his error, providing the assist for Bouanani.
