Coupe de France, quarter-finals, 26/02/25
PSG have asserted their dominance against the fourth-tier minnows from Brittany to book their place for the Coupe de France semis. After a spirited first half, Saint-Brieuc conceded four goals in a 17-minute second-half blitz. Gonçalo Ramos hit a hat-trick.
With Liverpool looming in the Champions League RO16 next week, PSG head coach opted to fielded a rotated squad with centre-forward supersub Gonçalo Ramos given the nod. The Portuguese international went close to break the deadlock early on but Franck L’Hostis got down early to deflect his header. His fellow countryman in midfield, João Neves, showed more composure.
Kvhicha Kvaratskhelia fed Désiré Doué on the left. In his former Roazhon Park garden, the former Rennes winger curled an effort which took a heavy deflection from Christophe Kerbrat. The ball hit the crossbar, João Neves chested it and volleyed home with his left foot. Les Parisiens were firmly in control of proceedings, dominating possession and pining the hosts in their half. To their credit, Stade Briochin tried to rouse the crowd with energetic challenges, but they were too easily dispossessed in midfield.
PSG took their time in poking the Griffins’ defense for flaws. They logically doubled their advantage after the half-hour mark. Senny Mayulu spotted Gonçalo Ramos’ run and threaded a precise right-footed towards him, the Portuguese centre-forward escaped Hugo Boudin’s marking to punish Saint-Brieuc from close range at the far post. PSG went into half-time with a deserved two-goal cushion.
PSG would make it three minutes into the second half. A brilliant backheel from Doué released Kvaratskhelia in the six-yard box and Kerbrat clipped the Georgian and was sanctioned for it. Ramos made no mistake from the spot. Doué made it four with a powerful low effort before setting up Ramos for his hat-trick and then Mayulu for the evening’s sixth goal. For all their good intentions in the first half, the Griffins have collapsed in spectacular fashion against the Ligue 1 leaders, conceding four goals in 17 minutes.
Given the scoreline, Luis Enrique could allow some of his key players a breather as Neves, Hakimi and Kvaratskhelia exited the pitch in preparation for PSG’s upcoming fixtures. Two substitutes, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé, combined for the latter to score a seventh goal of the night. For Stade Briochin, an historic run to the Coupe de France quarter-finals was over.
Matvei Safonov – 5
Achraf Hakimi – 5
Willian Pacho – 5
Lucas Beraldo – 5
Lucas Hernandez – 5
João Neves – 6
Fabian Ruiz – 6
Senny Mayulu – 6
Désiré Doué – 8
Back on his former Roazhon Park turf, the winger put in a spectacular performance and was involved in five of PSG’s six goals. The France U21 international is going from strength to strength and he can’t be far off of a senior call from Didier Deschamps in the form he’s in.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – 6
Gonçalo Ramos – 7
With Ousmane Dembélé entering a purple patch, the Portuguese found game time limited recently. He repaid Luis Enrique’s faith with a clinical hat-trick and he even could have, at least, a fourth goal.
Christophe Kerbrat – 3
Hugo Boudin – 3
Franck L’Hostis – 2
