One current Chelsea player is apparently regarded as a ‘wold-class defensive prospect’ inside and outside of the club, per one report today.

It makes you wonder why Chelsea are looking at signing new centre backs this month when you read this report! The Blues have been strongly linked to Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace this week. And as well as Guehi at Palace, reports have suggested that the club are considering recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at the same club at Guehi.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea eyeing move for 22-year-old PSG player!!

Last weekend, one of Chelsea’s best players was 18-year-old centre back Josh Acheampong during their 1-1 draw against ironically, Crystal Palace!

Acheampong is a highly rated centre back at Chelsea who is stepping up having just been promoted to the first team officially, and earned his first league start at the weekend. He was superb.

So why are Chelsea desperately looking for a new centre back? Why don’t they give Acheampong those minutes? Maybe he is not ready? But this report makes it seem like he is rated VERY highly across the footballing world.

The Athletic on Acheampong

Acheampong rated highly

The Athletic writer Liam Twomey has put out a report on Acheampong today, and it sounds like everyone within the football industry is raving about the young defender.

He says:

‘Josh Acheampong is regarded inside and outside Chelsea as a world-class defensive prospect. He combines a strong, mobile frame (he stands a little taller than 6ft, with plenty of room to add muscle as he matures) with a rare level of technical polish on the ball for his position.’

I wonder what he will think if/when Chelsea sign a new centre back who will come in and take away any minutes he might get in the first team, straight away.
