Portsmouth sign Southampton forward Thompson on loan | OneFootball

Portsmouth have completed the signing of Southampton forward Emma Thompson on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Pompey announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 20-year-old has been with Southampton since summer 2023 when she joined the club from Barclays Women’s Super League giants Chelsea. The forward has gone on to make 16 appearances for The Saints in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she has scored four goals. Thompson has struggled for starts at Southampton this season with all of her league appearances coming from the bench.

Thompson is in need of increased playing minutes and she will hope to get that during her loan spell at Portsmouth.

After adding Thompson to his squad, Portsmouth boss Jay Sadler said “I’m very excited that Emma has chosen to join us. She is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team.

“She has the speed, can combine, has a real eye for goal, can defend and can press. It makes us more unpredictable and gives us further options in the forward line.”

Thompson is Portsmouth’s second signing of the January transfer window. The club have also signed Bristol City’s Jasmine Bull on loan until the end of the season.
