Publicly announced timeframe for Newcastle United stadium decision has been missed

Fans still waiting for a Newcastle United stadium decision.
Over 43 months now since these Newcastle United owners bought the club from Mike Ashley
Plus, that takeover was a couple of years in the making, especially with the long delay in Premier League approval being given.
The TV piracy dispute between beIN Sports and Saudi Arabia, having brought about that lengthy wait. Once that was settled, then Premier League approval on the Newcastle United takeover immediately followed.
Not so immediate has been the making public by the new/current owners when it comes to Newcastle United stadium plans.
Indeed, as The Athletic have pointed out today (13 May 2025) in a question and answer session with subscribers, the NUFC owners/hierarchy have already at least twice failed to deliver news that had been promised, on what the Newcastle United stadium plan is.
‘Why have the club failed to adhere to their commitment of giving us a decision on stadium and training-ground plans?’
‘Newcastle United have frustratingly allowed their own publicly announced timeframe for the stadium decision to be missed.
Last July [2024], a decision was said to be “imminent.”
Then in October [2024], supporters were told progress would be made by “early 2025.”
The season has only two games remaining and, while there are suggestions an announcement of some sort could be made over the summer, it is unclear what that will be.
As for the training ground, plans to further expand Benton while an alternative site is identified have been put into motion, which suggests a new state-of-the-art facility remains years away.’
It is bizarre that almost four years into ownership of Newcastle United by the Saudi Arabia PIF and Reuben family, that absolutely nothing has been announced with what is going to happen with the promised new state of the art training facility, nor the Newcastle United stadium.
Both before the takeover was approved and in the aftermath, we saw any number of times when NUFC journalists had clearly been briefed by the new/impending owners as to a new state of the art training facility being a priority, as well as of course the most important of all, a far bigger capacity stadium. Amanda Staveley was especially vocal on the big plans for the club post-takeover.
I think the state of the art training facility is important, however, the Newcastle United stadium is clearly the big one.
Claims by the club’s owners that the intention is to make Newcastle United the very best club of all, then a much increased capacity and more modern Newcastle United stadium is central to that having any chance of happening.
As any NUFC member will tell you, the demand for tickets and the difficulty of getting them, is just crazy now for home matches. It is imperative that a much bigger stadium is available as soon as possible so that many more fans can watch their team, plus at least as importantly, the far bigger revenues that such a stadium could deliver season after season.
The reality of course as well, is that any announcement of the Newcastle United stadium plan is only the start, that you are then talking a number of years after that announcement, before the stadium could be built and ready for use.
