Queens Park Rangers have been called to avoid a “total rebuild job” this summer, with numerous players approaching the end of their contracts.

After avoiding relegation last season following the mid-season appointment of Marti Cifuentes, QPR have continued to go from strength-to-strength under the Spanish manager.

With 12 Championship games remaining, the R’s are 14th, 14 points clear of the relegation zone, allowing QPR to turn their thoughts to building next season’s squad.

QPR’s squad could look very different for the 2025/26 Championship season.

Aside from loanees Kobi Saito, Harrison Ashby, Ronnie Edwards, and Min-hyeok Yang, Rangers have a further seven players out of contract.

Goalkeeper Nathan Shepperd, defenders Jimmy Dunne, Steve Cook, Kenneth Paal, and Morgan Fox, midfielders Lucas Andersen and Jack Colback, as well as striker Michael Frey are all out of contract at Loftus Road this summer.

Football League World QPR fan pundit Louis Moir believes his side should look to keep some of the players on expiring deals, whilst also backing the club’s improved recruitment to correctly replace departees.

Louis shared: “I think a fair few could leave end of the season. When I say a fair few, there’s obviously a handful who could go.

“You’ve got quite a few out of contract, as it stands, at the end of the season.

“You’ve got (Jimmy) Dunne, (Kenneth) Paal, (Morgan) Fox, (Lucas) Andersen, (Steve) Cook, (Jack) Colback, (Michael) Frey, that’s quite a few players, and quite a bit of experience as well.

Obviously there’s a few in there that you want to keep – the likes of Dunne, Paal. You’ve surely got to be keeping Steve Cook around for at least another year as well.

“We’re still in doubt with players like Jimmy Dunne and Kenneth Paal. Out of the two, you’d think Paal would leave, but it’s tough to say.

“I don’t want another total rebuild job, as we’re building something here and we’ve got to keep the majority of players fit and in the squad, where we can.

“But I can certainly see a few of those leaving, because it’s going to free up a lot of wages. I'm confident in our recruitment now that we can replace them with quality.”

QPR trio identified as likely leavers this summer

Whilst Kenneth Paal and Jimmy Dunne have been linked with moves away from QPR, there is still hope from fans that they will sign new deals at Loftus Road.

However, with Jack Colback, Lucas Andersen, and Michael Frey, there has been little to suggest that they will remain at QPR beyond their current terms.

The trio, all into the 30s, are all out of contract this summer, although QPR do hold the option to extend Jack Colback’s contract by an extra season if they see fit.

“I can see the likes of Colback leaving, he’s 35 now,” added Louis.

“Yes he’s got good experience, yes he’s still a decent player, but he’s probably on one of the highest wages at the club.

"You could free that up, and still have experience without him.

“I could see him going, I could definitely see Lucas Andersen leaving, I’d be shocked if we give him a new deal.

“I could potentially see Morgan Fox leaving as well. I think if there’s any players that should really be leaving, it is the likes of Lucas Andersen.

“He just looks different to what he showed last season, really. Obviously he hasn’t played much, but when he has he’s been really slow, he’s looked past it.

“I think injuries have caught up to him, and obviously he’s coming back from a long one now.

“I think it would be the sensible decision for Colback to go.”
