Real Madrid are quite clearly in the worst period they have found themselves in for ages.

The team’s problems have been exposed like never before in recent games with the team not only losing to Barcelona and AC Milan but also losing their unbeaten La Liga streak and unbeaten streak at Santiago Bernabeu.

The latest blow suffered by the men in white was last night’s 3-1 humbling to an out-of-form AC Milan, and needless to say, serious questions are being asked of the team’s performances.

Speaking to the media after Real Madrid’s defeat to AC Milan last night, club legend and current director of external relations Emilio Butragueno was asked about potential signings in the winter transfer window to bolster the squad.

“Signings on January market? We trust our players,” he began, ruling out the possibility for the time being as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.

He then went on to add why the administration’s faith in the current core was so strong despite the poor run across competitions.

“A few months ago we won the league and Champions League.”

While indeed Real Madrid did win the UCL earlier this year, a lot has changed from the team that lifted the trophy for the fifteenth time in the club’s history.

For starters, Toni Kroos is no longer at the club and the team is suffering in midfield without his genius to navigate and break opposition lines. With no passer in their ranks, the team has time and time again been outplayed in the middle.

The departure of Nacho Fernandez, moreover, left the club with few options in defence and Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao are the only available centre-backs. With both players out of form, the team has struggled at the back.

Add to that the season-ending injury to Dani Carvajal and Kylian Mbappe’s struggles in attack and one can visualise an entire list of worrying aspects at the club.

Many have called for the management to at least push for defensive recruitments in January with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jonathan Tah amongst the players linked. Former Real Madrid player Miguel Gutierrez has also been linked.
