Real Madrid’s ongoing problems this season indicate that the club could be set for a massive revamp next summer.

Even the security of Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach is not guaranteed, with the Italian facing immense pressure following the recent set of results, coupled with his stubbornness of not utilising younger players in the team.

Keeping that in mind, Real Madrid are not only hunting potential reinforcements in the market but also a future coach.

Real Madrid eye move for Alonso and Wirtz

To that end, a recent report from Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger has confirmed that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Bayer Leverkusen duo Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz.

There is hardly anything new to this, as Real Madrid’s interest in Alonso and Wirtz has been well-documented in both German and Spanish media over the past six months or so.

However, Berger points to an interview with Leverkusen midfielder Robert Andrich, who admits that Wirtz will eventually move on to a bigger club.

This indicates that Leverkusen are preparing for life without the German international next summer and Real Madrid, to that end, could stand as one of the likely suitors.

As for Alonso, Leverkusen’s sporting director recently claimed that he sees the Spanish manager remain at the club at least until 2026.

However, with doubts creeping in over Ancelotti’s ability to steady the ship at Santiago Bernabeu, a 2025 move should not be ruled out for Alonso.

Not to mention, Alonso’s potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu could greatly aid Real Madrid in their pursuit of Wirtz, as the Spaniard could convince the young midfielder to follow him along to the Spanish capital.
