The biggest news for Real Madrid this week has undoubtedly been the reported agreement to sign Alphonso Davies next summer.

It is no secret that the Canadian star has been deferring contract renewal talks with Bayern Munich and is pushing for a departure on free to sign for Los Blancos next summer.

The news earlier this week, however, came with a sense of security that the deal was closed and that an agreement was reached.

However, the player’s agent soon came out to deny such a development and stated that it was not true.

The truth behind the lie

As relayed in a recent update by Jose Felix Diaz, there is indeed an agreement between the left-back and Real Madrid over a move next summer.

Davies’ agent denied the news as it was the only option he had on a public platform, especially given that the player is still contractually bound to Bayern Munich.

Moreover, the defender can only officially negotiate with clubs over his future in the final six months of his contract, implying that it can only be made public after January.

In all probability, however, Real Madrid and Davies will further defer the announcement of any form of agreement until the end of the season so as to maintain good ties between the Merengues and Bayern Munich.

Barcelona and Manchester United have also been closely monitoring the left-back’s situation but it is now clear that the player’s priority is only to don the white jersey. His refusal of Bayern Munich’s latest offer is a testament to the same.

It remains to be seen what impact Davies’ arrival has on Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy, and one would assume that at least one of the two players will be sold in the summer.
