Real Madrid are still reeling with Toni Kroos’ absence as the midfield maestro decided to call time on his career and retire from professional football this past summer.
Having enjoyed a successful decade-long stint at the Santiago Bernabeu, Kroos felt the time was right for him to hang up his boots after winning the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles last season.
Since retiring, the former German international has been involved in several projects including his academy in Madrid and as well as The Icon League, among other things.
However, speaking on his podcast ‘Einfach mal Luppen’ (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Kroos has refused to rule out a future return to Real Madrid in some capacity.
Talking about his special connection with the Spanish capital club, the club legend remarked: “The meaning of Real will always be the same for me. It was a long, great, successful and also loving time with Real Madrid.
“It will always be like that, I will always be close to Real, there is no doubt about that. And I will always defend Real, I will always be on Real’s side. That won’t change, the relationship is simply too close.”

As such, Kroos insisted that even though he is currently busy with his own projects, he would not close the doors on a future return to Real Madrid.
“Now I’m fully occupied with my projects, but given the closeness with Madrid, my relationship at Madrid, I would never rule out doing something at the club at some point in the future,” said the former midfielder.
Continuing, he added: “To appear now in the public environment of the club? The first thing I would say is no, no matter how close I feel to the club.
“But I’m not saying I’m not going to do or have anything to do with Real again in my life, of course I wouldn’t rule it out. In what role I can’t know, or whether the club can imagine it or not.”
“But I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of seeing myself again in some way at Real at some point,” Kroos concluded.
