In recent years, Real Madrid have adopted the policy of signing elite players on a free transfer, having roped in stars such as David Alaba and Kylian Mbappe.

This time around, Real Madrid are on the verge of signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to join the club on a free transfer from Liverpool this coming summer.

It appears Real Madrid have formally embraced this strategy as it has helped them do a lot of cost-cutting while still being able to acquire great players.

Real Madrid target move for Ibrahima Konate

According to MARCA, Real Madrid will continue their recruitment strategy of signing elite players on free transfers.

To that end, their next target could be another Liverpool defender in the form of Ibrahima Konate.

The report suggests Los Blancos are targeting a Bosman move for Konate in the summer of 2026, when the defender’s contract at Anfield comes to an end.

Formerly of RB Leipzig, Konate has been a part of the Liverpool setup for almost four years now, during which he has gone on to establish himself as a key cog in the team.

Standing at 1.94m, Konate is known for his imposing presence at the back which is coupled with his ability to distribute possession.

Although a sketchy injury history could be a concern, Real Madrid believe Konate could be an ideal addition to the club’s defensive unit.

Konate is adept at playing on the left-sided centre-back position and can serve as an ideal alternative to the likes of Eder Militao and Raul Asencio.

Moreover, the Frenchman brings vast experience, having featured in 79 Premier League and 66 Bundesliga matches during his career.

And for a free transfer, the centre-back can prove to be nothing short of a bargain for Los Blancos. However, any move would hinge on the Frenchman not signing an extension with Liverpool.
