Arsenal are set to welcome Real Madrid to the Emirates in a competitive nature for the first time as the two storied clubs lock horns in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.

Not since their last meeting in North London back in the 2005/06 campaign have these two squared off against one another, and with some ludicrous star power on display.

On that night at Highbury, Arsène Wenger's Gunners enjoyed a 1-0 aggregate lead after their famous win at the Bernabeu in the first leg, with Los Blancos manager Juan Ramón López desperate to set the record straight away from the Spanish capital.

Featuring in his star-studded XI were some of the legends of the game, including the likes of Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Raúl, David Beckham, and Iker Casillas.

For Wenger, his Arsenal side was led by club legend Thierry Henry, with a supporting cast that sported Cèsc Fabregas, Gilberto Silva, Kolo Touré, and Jens Lehmann, with Dennis Bergkamp on the bench.

Come the full-time whistle, Arsenal set themselves up for a run toward an ill-fated appearance in the Champions League final, ending Real Madrid's European campaign far too early.

One thing is for certain; Los Blancos supporters will be hoping for a different outcome tonight against Mikel Arteta and company.
