Roma are expected to make the call about their new coach within the next two days, and Vincenzo Montella has emerged as a viable candidate to replace Ivan Juric. He has been contacted through English intermediaries to evaluate his situation and requests. He’s helming Turkey and makes €5M per year, Il Tempo reported (via Fanpage).
The Giallorossi are taking their time as they might not stop at hiring a new coach. They plan to install a new CEO and potentially a new technical director. Florent Ghisolfi is under scrutiny despite joining the team only last summer.
Montella would be happy to return to Roma, where he played for a long time and contributed to their last Scudetto. The Friedkin family is operating out of London. They are whittling down the list of options. They turned down the proposal to bring back Daniele De Rossi.
Edin Terzic and Frank Lampard have lost steam. They negotiated with the former after their previous coaching change but didn’t find an agreement. The ex-Chelsea boss is close to Coventry City. Rudi Garcia hasn’t gained much momentum either. Roberto Mancini and Massimiliano Allegri’s stocks remain steady, but the Giallorossi aren’t actively in talks with them yet.
They surely need more than just a good coach to course correct after months of confusion, but that’s the most pivotal call. Their former icon has rehabbed his reputation in Turkey, must have busy agents, and has the advantage of learning the environment, but his track record in Serie A, especially in his last few stops, was only so-so. If they have a shot at Mancini or Allegri, who are expensive and demanding, they should go it.
