West Ham United boss Julen Lopetegui is fighting to save his job.
The Hammers have lost seven out of 14 games in the Premier League, and following their latest setback in the 3-1 loss against Leicester City on Tuesday night, Lopetegui’s position has come under internal scrutiny.
According to Dharmesh Sheth, Lopetegui’s future at the club is hanging in the balance.
The Sky Sports journalist has shared on X that the Hammers boss has failed to impress a section of the West Ham board, and the club are mulling over whether to sack him.
Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian wrote that he would be surprised if Lopetegui still remains in charge for Monday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has shared that while West Ham are discussing the future of their manager, they have not put any timeline on it.
Despite spending heavily in the summer, the Irons have badly underperformed, and many pundits feel that Lopetegui was a wrong appointment and should have been sacked a long time back.
West Ham have reportedly considered replacements for Lopetegui in recent weeks.
Sergio Conceicao, Edin Terzic, and Graham Potter are considered potential options for the Hammers.
To be fair, the Hammers board backed Lopetegui properly in the summer window, and they gave him time to turn things around despite the mounting pressure.
However, no matter how forcefully Guillem Balague tries to project Lopetegui in a positive light, regular followers of West Ham will tell you the football being played is absolutely unacceptable.
There is so much quality in the side, and it is painful to see them struggle. David Sullivan needs to pull the trigger now and bring someone new before things get worse.
West Ham have been dreadful at the back, and Lopetegui has failed to bring the best out of his players.
Put simply, Lopetegui is not the right fit for the Hammers, and the club cannot delay the inevitable sacking.
