Lecce are plummeting towards the danger zone after this 3-0 home defeat, but Como can practically celebrate Serie A safety with an Assane Diao brace and rare Edoardo Goldaniga header.

This was a relegation showdown for the Salentini, who will be without Gaby Jean and Filip Marchwinski for the rest of the season following knee surgery. Cesc Fabregas is missing Sergi Roberto and Alberto Dossena for the remainder of the campaign too.

Wladimiro Falcone needed a great save to claw the Nico Paz curler out of the far top corner.

Nikola Krstovic had the ball in the net on seven minutes, but was clearly offside on the Antonino Gallo ball over the top.

Tasos Douvikas stung Falcone’s gloves, then a wonderful Tete Morente volley from the edge of the box forced a desperate Jean Butez reaction save.

Douvikas ran onto the Jean Ikone through ball and his slightly scuffed angled drive dribbled all the way across the face of goal, skimming the far post.

Como took the lead when Assane Diao sprung the offside trap – as confirmed by VAR to overturn the flag – running onto a Nico Paz through ball to beat the on-rushing Falcone.

Alex Valle went off injured just before half-time and Edoardo Goldaniga nodded a Santiago Pierotti looping header practically off the line.

Kialonda Gaspar just failed to get his head to the Tete Morente free kick from nine yards, while Butez had to acrobatically fingertip the Morente curler out from under the bar.

Krstovic had penalty appeals when Oliver Kempf bundled into the back of him, but VAR waved play on after a check, especially as contact seemed to be outside the box.

N’Dri also tested Butez with a shot off the outside of the boot, but it was Como who doubled their lead late on with defender Goldaniga’s head steering a Lucas Da Cunha free kick back across the face of goal at the far post. It was his first Serie A goal since June 2020.

Lecce fans reacted angrily, chanting insults towards the club owners as well as the players. Como almost got a third with Gabrielloni’s quickly-taken strike skimming the far post, managing to celebrate 3-0 in stoppages when Gabriel Strefezza’s slide-rule pass set up Diao to bend into the far bottom corner with the inside of the right boot from the edge of the area.

Krstovic was the last to give in, his low free kick just wide, but Como registered a third consecutive Serie A victory.
