Sheffield United are reportedly planning a move for former Norwich City attacker Gabriel Sara this summer.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the Galatasaray player is attracting interest ahead of the upcoming transfer market.

Sara made the switch to the Süper Lig last summer from the Canaries, with the deal costing a reported €18 (£15.1) million.

Sara has been a regular presence in the Galatasaray side since moving, so it remains to be seen whether they would be open to a sale or not.

Sheffield United transfer warning

When asked about the prospect of Sara joining Sheffield United, FLW’s Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes claimed it’s not one he’d expect to go through.

He believes the Blades are likely to go straight back down, making them a poor fit, and he is unsure if they would spend the £20-25 million required to convince Galatasaray to sell.

“The only reason Sara would move to Sheffield United is because of the Premier League,” Downes told Football League World.

“But it’s pretty much instant relegation.

“I don’t see how anyone coming up really has much of a chance, maybe Leeds, but it’s very difficult.

“Burnley could do it in terms of their style of play, but I don’t know why Galatasaray would let him leave cause they do really like him, and they wouldn’t want to make a loss on him, and I don’t see Sheffield United paying the £20-25 million it would cost to buy him.

“So, we’ll have to see.

“I know that he would like to play in the Premier League, but I would have thought that it would be a team that’s higher up in the league, and actually not likely to go down.”

Sheffield United have to be willing to spend this summer

If Sheffield United do go up, then they have to be willing to spend in order to have any chance of survival in the Premier League.

The new owners coming in should bring some financial stability, which could leave them open to signing someone like Sara.

It would be an ambitious signing, and his experience in English football would come in handy if he joined.

But it’s difficult to see him leaving Galatasaray after just one year with the club.
