Evan Ferguson and Kwame Poku could be excellent January additions for the Blades, in their promotion quest.

Despite the fact their takeover saga was ongoing, Sheffield United were still able to enjoy a productive summer transfer window.

The Blades may have lost some talented players since the end of last season, including Cameron Archer and former loanee Ben Brereton Diaz, but their additions have put them in a decent position to compete for a Premier League return at the first time of asking.

The likes of Tyrese Campbell and Michael Cooper have proved to be excellent signings so far - and Harrison Burrows has made some important contributions too.

Having some decent options in several areas, the Blades may be more focused on adding depth to their squad in January, rather than signing a top-quality starter. However, some key additions can't be ruled out.

With the squad in its current form showing that it can compete at the top end of the table, a huge budget isn't needed, and United need to be careful not to rock the boat too much after making a very good start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Who they will need to recruit may depend on who leaves, but United will surely be doing everything they can to retain their current key first-teamers until at least the end of the season.

In terms of potential January additions, FLW takes a look at two players Chris Wilder's side should be scouting ahead of the winter window.

Kwame Poku

Kwame Poku has been a real asset for Peterborough United in the past couple of years - and was very impressive in the final third last season.

Continuing to perform well this season and score regularly during the 2024/25 campaign, it will only be a matter of time before he attracts a huge amount of interest, and the Blades should throw their hat in the ring for him.

Currently, the Blades don't have a huge number of wingers at their disposal.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi can be a game-changer out wide, but he's only at Bramall Lane on loan and it's unclear whether he will stay in South Yorkshire beyond the end of the season.

Callum O'Hare can also play out wide if required, as well as Andre Brooks, but United could benefit from having at least one more wing option to improve their attacking firepower.

They may have made a decent start to the season, but if they can continue to add more firepower to their team, they will give themselves the best chance of winning promotion and coping with injuries.

Having signed Burrows from Posh, the two teams already have a relationship and United could take advantage of that to open talks for Poku.

Evan Ferguson (loan)

Kieffer Moore, Campbell and Rhian Brewster may be options when fit, but having another clinical forward in their team could end up boosting their chances of promotion.

Moore hasn't scored that regularly so far this season and recruiting Brighton's Evan Ferguson, who will be keen to do well to force his way back into the Seagulls' first team, could be a shrewd move.

Failing to win much game time this season, the Irishman could potentially benefit from a loan move away from the Amex Stadium, and United could be an ideal destination for him if he can win a decent amount of game time at the Lane.

They probably wouldn't be the only team in the race for his signature though, with Burnley, Fulham and Leicester City all being linked with a move for him recently.

The Blades may be in a position to offer him more time on the pitch than some others in the race, however, so the Blades should be looking to secure an agreement for him.

This may not be a hugely expensive deal either, considering they would only be signing him on loan.
