Ousmane Diomande is attracting ‘significant interest’ from the Premier League after an impressive start to the season at Sporting Lisbon.
The defender’s performances have helped Sporting to a perfect record of 11 wins from 11 games in the Primeira Liga this season, with just five goals conceded. Sporting are also unbeaten in the Champions League and sit second in the league phase, behind only Liverpool.
Diomande has established a reputation as one of the best up-and-coming centre-backs in Europe since signing for Sporting from FC Midtjylland and could be the latest player to earn the Portuguese champions a big fee.
He was named in the Primeira Liga Team of the Year in 2023/24 after Sporting’s title success, having ranked second in the league for pass completion and progressive carrying distance.
Ruben Amorim has already been linked with raiding his former team for talent, following his appointment at Manchester United.
Sky Germany are reporting there is ‘significant interest’ from the Premier League in the 20-year-old, who has no release clause in his contract at the Estádio José Alvalade. Sporting value Diomande at between €50m and €60m (£41.6m and £49.9m).
Bayern Munich are not currently in the race to sign the Ivory Coast international, who helped his side to Africa Cup of Nations success in 2023.
The German side are currently focusing their attention on signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, after a failed pursuit last summer. Tah’s contact at Leverkusen expires at the end of the campaign.
