Arne Slot has said 99% of the transfer rumours in January are not true amid Liverpool’s links to signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month.

Liverpool are reported to be monitoring Kvaratskhelia’s situation at Napoli, where the winger has stalled on signing a new deal.

Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as favourites to sign the Georgian. However, the reliable David Ornstein and The Athletic are reporting that Liverpool will consider an approach if Kvaratskhelia is allowed to leave this month. The Reds hold a long-standing interest in the 23-year-old.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup tie with Accrington Stanley this weekend, Slot shut down the speculation and said almost all the transfer rumours this month are fabricated.

“It’s January and I think I said it after the West Ham game, don’t disappoint me. Please come up with all these clubs and players that are of interest from us or that aren’t playing a lot for us going somewhere else.

“That’s what’s happening now – 99 out of 100 times in the window it’s been clear that almost all of these stories weren’t true. So what can I comment about it? That’s the rumours, keep going for it. But no comments from my side.”

Liverpool are aiming to respond from defeat at Tottenham in their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg in midweek. Slot said he was determined for the Reds to be more decisive after several close games in recent weeks.

“If you look back at all the other games, even Leicester City away we were 2-1 up, 10 minutes to play. I’ve said many times we in a lot of games we won, maybe with the only exception could be Chelsea, but all the other ones we’ve deserved to win but never by a big margin, it was always very tight.

“What can we improve? Increasing the margin, because otherwise you’ll always depend on a bit of luck or a bit of being unlucky as well or certain decisions made by the referee.

“We must make sure that we don’t depend on those moments any more and that’s the next step we want to make if we want to not depend on luck or bad luck. Because of the results, people judge you on performance. It’s not many times if a team has a draw or a loss that people say they played really well.”
