Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has issued a fresh update on his contract situation at the Etihad Stadium as he enters into the final six months of his agreement.

The Belgium international captain is fast approaching an exit from the Etihad Stadium as things stand, at which point clubs from across the globe will be able to sign the 33-year-old midfielder on a free transfer.

De Bruyne is welcome to speak with interested clubs from this month, and while there have been a list of potential suitors mentioned in various quarters over the last few weeks, there has been little in the way of concrete developments surrounding conversations.

Saudi Arabia are unsurprisingly understood to be monitoring De Bruyne’s situation with keen interest, while Major League Soccer is believed to be the preferred destination from the player’s side, should he need to leave Manchester City in the near future.

San Diego FC have been one club to have been mentioned as a potential suitor, having held tenuous conversations with representatives of the Manchester City legend over the past few months.

Speaking after Manchester City’s recent 0-6 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League, Kevin De Bruyne – who captained the side at Portman Road – was quizzed on whether there had been any fresh developments over his expiring Etihad Stadium contract.

“I’ve not spoken to them for the moment,” the Belgian veteran responded. “I wanted to get better, I’m doing better, so I’m happy. We’ll see, something will happen,” he continued.

Continuing on the subject of his own personal fitness, De Bruyne explained, “I feel better, obviously. It was an annoying injury that I had but I feel like I’m getting better and better, getting my fitness back and the way that I run.”

Kevin De Bruyne’s status as an all-time Manchester City great was further emphasised since the turn of the year, after he surpassed 400 appearances in a Sky Blue shirt during the 4-1 Premier League win over West Ham.

Pep Guardiola was keen to recognise the achievement and presented the midfielder with a special edition shirt during a Manchester City training session alongside the entire first-team squad.

“On behalf of all the team, I’d like to give you this; Kevin, please come here… 10 years here and this incredible milestone, you’ve done it! A billion games, trainings. Before we arrived, you were here, before all of us. That’s why congratulations,” Guardiola said in a short speech.

“I’d love to take a picture together, I’d love to have it with all of us. It’s on behalf of all the team, the staff, backroom staff, players, everyone – this is a representation of all of us. Congratulations, Kevin!”
