Roma attacker Matias Soulé gave a lengthy interview to Il Romanista about the Giallorossi’s season of ups and downs.
In the interview, the Argentine discussed Claudio Ranieri’s teachings.
“With me, as soon as he arrived, you could see that he already knew I was in trouble. He told me: “Now that you know you are in trouble, the only thing you can do is play simple, and then little by little better things will come to you. Now you have to be more concrete”.
“He is like that, he gets to the point with simplicity, he reassured us with words. He speaks, and you know he has experience on his side. He reassured us in the bad moment we were in.”
“Bologna were interested in me in January. I wasn’t playing much, so I asked Ranieri what I should do, and what he thought about it. He told me: “Don’t worry. Things aren’t going well now, but you’ll have your opportunities”.”
“Then at the end of the transfer market another offer arrived, from Fulham, but they told me to stay here. Obviously I didn’t want to leave, but talking to Ranieri helped me.”
“I also came to Roma because Daniele De Rossi was here. He left after only four games, and it was hard seeing him go, because I thought: “Daniele brought me, and now what will happen?”. Obviously I felt bad, I didn’t think it was a bad choice, I understood that there are more difficult moments in which you can’t give up.”
“I came to Rome also thanks to Dybala and Paredes. I asked them for tickets to come to the Olimpico. They always talked to me about the fans, but I also experienced it firsthand. When I played with Frosinone, at the Olimpico, when we entered the field the anthem started but because of my concentration I couldn’t hear it as well as I did when I came to watch the games from the stands. There, together with my family, we went crazy.”
“The Friedkins? We feel close to them, they are always present. They come to Rome every now and then, but they are somehow always present. They talk to the coach every day and make decisions with him.”
“Juric? I don’t know. His idea of the game was completely different from De Rossi’s idea. Every coach has his own ideas, there was a change that was too dramatic. We had to play man against man, but we didn’t have much time to adapt to that type of game.”
“De Rossi? I talk with him all the time. The other day he told me he was coming to my house to eat. We had said it but in the end we never did it yet.”
