Manchester United are trying to offload a few players with less than a fortnight remaining in the January transfer window.
According to Voetball International, “sources close to Tyrell Malacia have confirmed that he will leave Man United on loan this month”.
The report further revealed that “United have informed Malacia that he can leave”.
The 25-year-old spent the entire 2023/24 season on the sidelines due to a persistent knee injury.
After 17 months of absence, he made his long-awaited return.
However, his performances have yet to live up to expectations.
Malacia has clocked just over 200 minutes of play in five senior appearances this season.
The Netherlands international was Erik ten Hag’s first signing at the Red Devils, arriving from Feyenoord in a £12.5 million deal in 2022.
Unfortunately, injury setbacks never allowed his career to take off at United.
Manager Ruben Amorim fields his team in a 3-4-2-1 formation and wing-backs play a pivotal role in this set-up.
Since his return, Malacia has been underwhelming and has struggled to demonstrate that he is suited for the role.
His lack of pace and shortcomings in attack have been laid bare.
It may be in the best interest of both the Red Devils and Malacia to part ways.
A January loan move would offer him the chance to regain his fitness through consistent playing time.
Regular game time could also boost his market value, which would ultimately benefit United.
Marcus Rashford and Casemiro are two other high-profile United players who could exit in the coming days.
