Aston Villa’s Georgia Mullett has joined Championship side Southampton FC on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The 19-year-old rose through the ranks of the Aston Villa academy before making her senior debut in November 2022. During the 2022/23 season, she scored 19 goals in as many games for the U21s side.
Mullett went on to sign her first professional contract with Villa in September 2023. She has made 15 senior appearances for the Villans so far.
Mullett has featured for England at various youth levels and helped the U19s qualify for the 2023 European Championships. This demonstrates her experience at international level.
The young striker becomes the Saints fourth loan signing of the January window. She has followed fellow England U19 internationals Vivienne Lia and Araya Dennis in signing for the club.
The Saints are clearly eager to improve upon their current Championship position. They currently sit in eighth, one point behind the recently promoted Newcastle United in seventh.
Mullett’s addition will enhance Southampton’s attacking threat due to her ruthlessness in front of goal. This move will also help her gain regular senior minutes, which will be extremely valuable for her development.
Upon joining the Saints, Mullett said: “I feel that I can offer depth in behind, making those quick runs in behind defences, but I can also come and support and pin the ball so hopefully we’ll be able to see that in the second half of the season.”
Southampton’s head coach Remi Allen added: “We’re delighted to welcome Georgia to the side, she adds some much needed depth going forward for us at the moment so it’s great to get her on board.”
The Saints next face off against Durham on Saturday, January 26th at 12pm GMT.
