Eddie Howe has been talking about the weather.
With Storm Eowyn hitting the UK, the Newcastle United boss asked about how it might potentially impact on preparations for Saturday’s match and indeed the travelling to Southampton.
Eddie Howe saying on Friday morning when speaking from the training ground at his press conference:
“It is windy today and I struggled to get in [to work].
“Hopefully we can find a place that is sheltered enough [to train], we do have a dome here.
“We will find the safest place.”
Eddie Howe asked about the Newcastle United squad travelling to Southampton:
“Our travel plans may be affected.
“We will check with the authorities.
“We’ll see how it goes today.
“Our plan, as always [with an away match], is to travel today.
“If it is not safe to fly, we will fly tomorrow.
“It is a long journey [by coach] and no guarantee that an eight or nine hour journey won’t turn into a twelve or thirteen hour journey.
“So it is best that we look to fly.
“We have travelled before on the day of a game.
“Sometimes that is the easiest way, as you are in and you are out [quickly, on the same day].”
Anybody who has been on a coach to Bournemouth for an away match will know it is a canny hike, even with no delays. Plus, that is when your only intention is having the exertion of having a ‘few’ pints, not playing in a Premier League match!
Looking at this Storm Eowyn, it looks like it is hitting Northern Ireland and then the West coast of England the hardest.
Plus, for both Newcastle Upon Tyne and Southampton, it is actually forecast a decent day in terms of weather on Saturday, with the two regions seeing any impact from the storm ending tonight.
