As Tottenham prepare for a pivotal second-leg clash against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, concerns remain over the squad’s fitness. Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, in which Spurs clawed back from a two-goal deficit, offered some encouragement, but Ange Postecoglou’s side still faces a battle to convince supporters they have the consistency required for a deep European run.

Postecoglou has frequently pointed to injuries as a major obstacle in his side’s development, with key players missing at crucial moments. Some have returned, but several absentees remain, raising questions over squad depth as the season reaches its defining phase.
Dejan Kulusevski’s absence in the first leg against Alkmaar was keenly felt. The Sweden international, who has been playing through discomfort in recent weeks, was seen wearing a protective boot before the match, and further examinations have offered little clarity on when he will return.

Postecoglou admitted last week: “He’s got a knock on the foot, he’s not really sure when to be honest but it’s got a bit sore in the last couple of weeks but he’s been able to train and play and just get through it OK. But it wasn’t getting better so we did some further investigations and no real clarity again, but we’re waiting on a couple of things to find out the extent of it but unlikely to be back before the international break.”
That timeline effectively rules Kulusevski out of this crucial second leg, with the possibility that his absence could extend further.
Potential return date: Unknown
Ben Davies has now returned to training after missing the last five games with an unspecified injury, but he was not involved in the squad for the Bournemouth match.
With Spurs struggling for defensive stability, having Davies back could offer some much-needed experience. Postecoglou is expected to provide a further update in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, but his return appears closer than some of the other long-term absentees.
Potential return date: Unknown
Richarlison’s injury woes continued after a calf issue forced him off during Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool in February. At the time, Postecoglou suggested the Brazilian would be out for around three weeks, but the lack of updates since then has led to uncertainty over when he will return.

Spurs have struggled for attacking fluency in his absence, and while Son Heung-min’s return from international duty has helped, the need for attacking reinforcements remains pressing.
Potential return date: Unknown
Radu Dragusin has been ruled out for an extended period after suffering an ACL injury in February. The Romanian centre-back has since undergone knee surgery, and his return is not expected until late 2025.

While his absence does not impact Spurs’ short-term plans as significantly as some of the other injuries, it is a reminder of the longer-term squad-building challenges Postecoglou faces.
Potential return date: Late 2025
With Europa League qualification hanging in the balance and a congested fixture list ahead, Spurs’ injury list remains a cause for concern. The next few weeks could determine whether they finish the season with silverware—or another campaign of near misses.
