“Strong, strong interest” – Fabrizio Romano delivers major Andre Onana update

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano provides the latest updates on Andre Onana after being omitted from Man Utd’s squad on Sunday.
The 29-year-old had another torrid display between the sticks on Thursday, as his blunders forced the Red Devils to settle for a 2-2 draw against Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final.
While this certainly wasn’t the first time the team paid for the Cameroonians’ howlers, Ruben Amorim decided he had seen enough, so he decided to drop the goalkeeper from the squad that took on Newcastle United on Sunday.
Sadly for the Reds, this manoeuvre paid little dividends, as they still suffered an agonising 1-4 defeat at St. James Park. Ironically, Onana’s understudy Altay Bayindir was the main culprit on the fourth goal.
So where do United and Onana go from here?
In the latest video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Romano dissected the goalkeeper’s situation at Carrington.

The transfer market insider revealed that Amorim took the decision to exclude Onana from the squad following a face-to-face talk with the custodian. The manager reportedly urged him to spend some time with his loved one to take his mind off the game.
At this point, Romano believes that Amorim has yet to decide who will start between the posts in Thursday’s second leg against Lyon.
Moreover, the Italian journalist provides some market updates on Onana who has reportedly attracted ‘strong, strong interest’ from the Saudi Pro League.
Romano notes that this interest dates back to his splendid campaign at Inter Milan. But at the time, the goalkeeper only had eyes for Man Utd.
Transfermakt estimates Onana’s market value at circa £27 million. This could be a sufficient figure for the Red Devils to prevent registering a capital loss, having signed the custodian for £47 million two years ago. His current deal runs until June 2028.
