Most of Inter Miami’s most passionate fans didn’t see the Heron’s first outright win of the preseason Sunday, but it wasn’t because they didn’t try.
The South Florida club — valued at $1.19 billion by Sportico — told supporters it would livestream its Americas Tour preseason series at its website, InterMiamiCF.com. That didn’t happen. The club lost its feed three times before halftime; fans were not amused.
Adan Hendricks Ayarza put Panamanian side Sporting San Miguelito ahead 1-0 in the 24th minute, receiving a beautifully weighted pass on a perfectly timed run behind Inter Miami’s back line. Goalkeeper Oscar Ustari, starting his second preseason match for the Herons, didn’t have a chance.
Less than five minutes later, the stream crashed for the first time. Inter Miami tried to bring its stream back online on YouTube, succeeding for two- and 17-minute spans, but it was offline when Benjamin Cremaschi finished a beautiful give-and-go by Chelo Weigandt and Lionel Messi that resulted in Weigandt’s low pass across goal to a wide open BenCrem for the equalizer in first-half stoppage time.
Newcomers Tadeo Allende and Fafà Picault tallied unofficial first goals for the Herons in the 48th and 64th minutes to seal the win at Estadio Estel Fernandez.
The Herons remain undefeated in 2025 after draws against Mexican powerhouse Club America in Las Vegas and Peru champion Universitario de Desportes in Lima (Inter Miami won inexplicable penalty shootouts after each friendly match). The Americas Tour continues against Club Olimpia Deportivo at 8 p.m. ET Saturday at Estadio Olympico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and wraps up with a friendly against Sunshine State rival Orlando City SC at 6:30 p.m. Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Inter Miami will play its first “meaningful” match when it vistis Sporting Kansas City on Tuesday, Feb. 18, for the first leg of their FIFA Club World Cup tie. The Herons and New York City FC will open the Major League Soccer regular season at Chase Stadium on Feb. 22 and Miami will host Sporting KC on Feb. 25.
