Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has defended his players and believes he can turn the Red Devils form around in the coming fixtures after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been a poor start to the campaign for Manchester United with seven points from an available 18 in the Premier League.

The Red Devils will also be hoping they can pick up form in their coming Europa League tie against FC Porto on Thursday after a disappointing 1-1 draw against FC Twente at Old Trafford last week.

The Red Devils were extremely poor in the latest 3-0 defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with the visitors far more comfortable on the ball and creating several chances on Andre Onana’s goal.

Ten Hag’s side lacking ideas and structure is a daming indictment of the club’s current form in the former Ajax manager’s third season in charge.

In his post-match reaction to the  Tottenham defeat, the Dutch coach has revealed what he has said to his players after a disappointing performance and result.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ten Hag said: “I told them just in the dressing room ‘come on, tomorrow is a new day’.

“But definitely, we have to learn, we have to do things better, we have to be better in the pressing, especially also better on the ball because there were situations where we could have played better, to find the spare man or to play over the press, to keep the ball and play from there and we didn’t do it, and of course that’s disappointing.
