Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti delivered a strong warning to his star forwards, including Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe, and Rodrygo, during the half-time break of their recent derby against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

During the first half, Madrid’s attack struggled to find rhythm, with the forwards often clustering on the left wing.

Vinicius frequently drifted inside, seeking possession in central areas, which disrupted the game plan meticulously prepared by Ancelotti during training sessions.

The manager had instructed Vinicius to stay wide near the touchline to stretch Atletico’s defence. However, the Brazilian’s desire to be involved in play led him to deviate from these instructions.

Ancelotti’s warning

Frustrated by the lack of execution, Ancelotti warned his forwards at the break that they needed to adhere to the tactical plan or face substitutions.

“Either we do what we have prepared or there will be changes immediately,” the manager told his player as quoted by MARCA.

This direct approach seemed to have an impact, as Real Madrid’s performance significantly improved in the second half.

The team’s resurgence was built on a stronger defensive foundation, allowing them to assert dominance over their city rivals. Mbappe netted a crucial goal in the 50th minute, which salvaged a point for Madrid.

Real Madrid improved

With a more disciplined approach from Vinicius and Rodrygo, Los Blancos created several promising chances, though their finishing lacked precision.

Looking ahead, Real Madrid face a challenging test against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Ancelotti is expected to field the same attacking quartet of Vinicius, Bellingham, Mbappe, and Rodrygo.

Due to Lucas Vazquez’s injury, Federico Valverde is likely to cover the right-back position, leaving Dani Ceballos and Eduardo Camavinga to form the midfield pivot.

Ancelotti’s tactical adjustments and half-time interventions will be crucial as Madrid aim to maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions.
