Adam Idah ended his goal drought in spectacular fashion as he grabbed a finely taking brace at Villa Park in last night’s 4-2 defeat in the Champions League against Aston Villa.

I wrote yesterday that it was time for him to step up due to the departure of Kyogo, and to his credit he did just that, and on the biggest stage of all.

Adam recaptured the from that made him a firm favourite with the supporters last season, and persuaded the club to splash out £9.5 million for his signature. He never set that fee and many supporters of both Norwich City and Celtic reckon that the fee was way higher than it should have been but that was nothing at all to do with Adam Idah.

It wasn’t just his goals, but his all round play was exceptional, and he put in a tireless performance that he can be proud of. Sandman had one gripe today and it was simply to do with improving his fitness levels and that will surely come with more starts, allowing him to truly get up to full speed.

The challenge now for Adam Idah is to kick on from here and start doing the same on a weekly basis. We know he’s well capable of doing so, and he needs to replicate that form as we move into the business end of the season, starting at Fir Park on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).

With Kyogo gone, it’s vital that Adam does just that, and with no signs of a Kyogo replacement as of yet, we need him firing on all cylinders. A new arrival will give Adam competition so it’s up to him to show he’s the first pick and he’s not for moving aside for anyone. That only happens if he delivers on the park, just like he did last night.

There will be no stopping Adam Idah in that kind of form.
