The Toffees play host to The Gunners in their latest league fixture at Walton Hall Park this evening.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen highlighted Arsenal’s quality whilst admitting that it is a dangerous time to play The Gunners following their Adobe Women’s FA Cup exit to Liverpool last weekend
“I think they have one of the best squads available and they work very well together, you can see that they are well-coached,” Sørensen said. “Even when Jonas [Eidevall] was there, I thought they were really well-organised and they still are.
“It’s going to be really tough for us and it’s probably the worst time to play them [after the Liverpool defeat]. They will want to bounce back quickly after a loss like that.”
Commenting on Arsenal further, Sørensen said that he believes that The Gunners are potentially the best team in the Barclays Women’s Super League but their weakness is possibly recovering from unfavourable positions in games.
He said “We have a belief that we can do something but I am also very aware that Arsenal have a very good squad with very good players.
“Analysing them, I can’t quite see why they have games like the Liverpool game where they lose. I don’t know why because they have good player availability and they are a very good team. The difference between them and Chelsea is probably that Chelsea have more bad games but they find a way to win. Maybe they’re lacking some of that but in terms of quality all around, I think they are potentially the best team in the league.
“I know it’s going to be a tough ask but we take great confidence from the last two games that we have played against them, we held them to a draw. We will do our best.”
After struggling to score in the first half of the season, Everton have now netted in five consecutive games. Sørensen said that there is still room for improvement.
He said “We can always be better. Against the top teams, we need to control the game in larger periods so that it’s not always controlling when you’re defending because that takes a toll on you. We are trying to be a bit better on the ball.
“I happy with the progress, happy with where we are going but we also need to be better in all of these things.
“In terms of scoring goals, we are still creating clear-cut chances that we don’t score and then we might score a goal out of nothing. That’s great but we need to be a bit better at the clear-cut ones.”
