Todd Cantwell played against his former side Norwich City for the first time on Saturday
Todd Cantwell has issued a message to Blackburn Rovers supporters following his appearance against his former side Norwich City on Saturday.
The 27-year-old started in Valerien Ismael’s first game in charge of the Lancashire outfit, with the team chasing a play-off place in the Championship.
A 90th minute strike from Ante Crnac had put the visitors ahead before a stoppage time equaliser from Andreas Weimann secured a point for 10-men Blackburn.
Emmanuel Dennis was given his marching orders five minutes from the end, with the draw leaving Rovers seventh in the table.
Cantwell has opened up on the strange feeling of playing against the side where he first came through as a senior player.
The forward made his first appearance for Rovers since the 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in mid-February, featuring for 60 minutes before being substituted.
“Strange feeling playing against the team you spent so many years at, from a kid to a man,” wrote Cantwell, via Instagram.
“I loved every minute being back on the pitch after a tough week.
“Let’s keep moving towards our goal Rovers.”
Cantwell has made 27 appearances for Blackburn since arriving in the summer from Rangers.
He’s contributed two goals and three assists, with the club chasing a top six finish in the table.
Blackburn dropped out of the play-off places with their 1-1 draw at home to Norwich on Saturday, with Coventry City leapfrogging them and West Brom to move into fifth.
Ismael drew his first game in charge, having been appointed last week as John Eustace’s permanent replacement.
Rovers have won two of their last five league games, earning victories over the Baggies and Plymouth, with only an inferior goal difference keeping them out of the top six.
Next up for Blackburn is a clash against Eustace’s new team Derby County on 8 March.
Cantwell’s fit in Ismael’s team is going to be an interesting selection choice for the new manager at Blackburn.
The playmaker has had a solid first season at Ewood Park, but could be seen as a bit of a luxury player to have in the team.
That he only got 60 minutes straight away might be a sign that the 49-year-old is giving him a chance to prove he can work in this side.
