After a 5-0 loss against defending champions São Paulo in their opening Group B fixture at the Cotton Bowl Stadium on Sunday, the young Magpies trailed at half-time at Richland College before quick-fire strikes from Matty Taylor and Matheos Ferreira fired Newcastle's youngsters ahead shortly after the hour mark.
Jude Cogdon, son of former South Shields and Spennymoor Town striker Gavin, made an impressive impact from the substitutes' bench after extending United's advantage in the closing stages to confirm maximum points in Texas.
Chris Moore and James Marwood's side are currently situated in third place of Group B on three points and, with the winners of the three respective groups booking their spot in the last-four as well as the highest ranked runner-up, Newcastle's youngsters require a victory in their final Group B fixture against Tigres UANL on Wednesday when facing the Mexican side at the Toyota Soccer Center (kick-off 8pm BST).
