(Video): Chelsea loan star keeps his team in hunt for Europe with special moment

Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg had a difficult start to the season, and there were convincing rumours that they might be considering sacking manager Liam Rosenior, who was only appointed in the summer.
However since Christmas they’ve really turned things around (unlike the Blues) and now have reached the lofty heights of 7th in the table after a 1-0 win over Auxerre yesterday.
There was one man they had to thank above all for that – on loan Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. He was superb and kept a fourth consecutive clean sheet with some nice saves. One in injury time saw the ball fly through a crowd of bodies, with Petrovic somehow able to get down low and palm it wide.

After another fine showing in goal, stats site SofaScore now have Petrovic as the second highest rated goalkeeper in the whole French league.
He looked solid at Chelsea last season, but we didn’t forsee him taking such a big step up. In particular he seems to have improved his distribution, and he ranks really highly in all the passing and possession stats compared to other goalkeepers.
Chelsea are apparently not planning on bringing in a goalkeeper this summer despite the fact they have had a nightmare with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen this season. Petrovic’s fine form is likely a reason for that, and we’re excited to see what happens in the conclusion of the Alsatians’ campaign, with Europe now very much within reach if the Serbia stopper can continue keeping clean sheets.
If they make it, they can look back on that extra time save as a turning point.
