Reo Hatate made it 2-0 to Celtic in the 83rd minute to ease the tension at Celtic Park. With the game entering the final stages, the anxiety amongst the support grew as Jim Goodwin’s side pressed for an equaliser.
Luis Palma collected the ball on the left flank before sending a lofted pass with the outside of his foot to the back post for Daizen Maeda. The winger, who scored the opener, may have been tempted to double his tally but rather looked up and pulled it back for the queuing midfielders. Paulo Bernardo let the ball roll through his legs as Hatate arrived to drive the ball beyond Walton.
Celtic will now look to see out the final few minutes to go 16 points clear of Rangers, who face Dundee at Dens Park tomorrow. After tonight, the Scottish Champions are next in action against Ross County in the early KO on Saturday.
