Vinicius Junior re-affirms commitment to Real Madrid amid Saudi Arabia links | OneFootball

Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad was very special for Vinicius Junior, as it signalled his first match as captain of Real Madrid. The absences of Dani Carvajal and Federico Valverde, coupled with Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modric being on the bench at the Reale Arena, meant that the Brazilian, who is the club’s fifth captain, wore the armband.

For Vinicius, it was a very special moment. He opened up on it during a post-match interview with Real Madrid TV (via Sport).

“It’s something very special to be able to play so long here and at 24 years old to play my first game as captain. It’s very special for me and my family, after everything we’ve been through to get here.”

Vinicius also admitted that he is hoping to have the opportunity to wear the armband on many more occasions, and in the process, he appeared to commit to staying on at Real Madrid, amid the constant links with Saudi Arabia.

“It’s something different because you never imagine what’s going to happen to you. And I am happy to be able to enter as captain of the best club in the world to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey. I’m living it. It’s something I hadn’t even dreamed of. In the next game the 300 games will come, but I already want the 400 and 500 and make history at this club.”

On the match itself against La Real, Vinicius was pleased with the performance that his teammates produced. He also believes that the squad is currently in its best form of the campaign.

“We played very well and defended, as the coach asked us to do. And we won with a great goal from Endrick. We are reaching our best version at the best moment of the season, when the games we like to play arrive.”
