Ruben Amorim has spent the first half of the week getting acquainted with his players and his new surroundings at Carrington.

Despite agreeing to succeed Erik ten Hag over a fortnight ago, the Portuguese tactician only arrived in England on Monday to officially kickstart his tenure as Manchester United’s head coach.

He left Sporting Lisbon on amicable terms, having overseen an unbeaten start to the campaign in all competitions. The side sits atop the Liga Portugal after 11 matches played with a perfect record of 11 wins while also scoring a whopping 39 goals and conceding only five.

Similarly, Sporting are second-placed in the new-look Champions League standings after winning three of their opening four group-stage matches and drawing once. Their most recent victory was a remarkable 4-1 triumph over Manchester City, which certainly left the United faithful even more optimistic about their new man.

Amorim’s first words as head coach will delight supporters

When making his way around the training complex this week, Amorim familiarised himself with the Reds who’ve stayed with the club during the break, whether that be through injury or being overlooked for international duty. He was spotted chatting with sidelined youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro, both of whom are primed to play integral roles at the heart of his squad for the coming years.

United shared a video this morning of Amorim chatting with Luke Shaw, who is also closing in on his long-awaited return to action.

“I’m thrilled to be here, guys,” Amorim proclaimed. “We have to have fun.”

In turn, it’s safe to say each player looked equally as thrilled to be meeting their new gaffer, and his philosophy will undoubtedly resonate with them after such a troubling, turbulent start to the campaign.
