Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers says that her side will keep believing that they can win the Barclays Women’s Super League title until it is mathematically impossible.

Long-time leaders Chelsea hold a 10-point lead over The Gunners with just eight games left to play.

When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s fixture against West Ham United, Arsenal boss Slegers said that her side have to keep believing that winning the title is possible.

“We need to believe that and I do,” Slegers said. “We’re in the position we’re in at the moment. We have a very exciting block, full of opportunities ahead of us, and we’re going to try and take those opportunities, that’s within our control.

“Everything that the others do, we can’t control but we’re going to try and do what we can do in these [next] four games.”

Going into the business end of the season, Arsenal are still chasing three trophies and Slegers admits that it’s an exciting time for the club.

She said “It’s very exciting. This is where we want to be. We have the FA Cup and the Champions League where we can make a great step this block with the Real Madrid games and Liverpool game and then we’re going to try and push everything in the league as well across those four games.”

Arsenal take on West Ham United in their next Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at The Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park on Sunday evening. Slegers believes that her side are in for another tough test.

She said “I think they’re going to make it very hard for us, which they did in the away game as well. I think they have their identity as a team, they’re looking to find their identity and they’re coming closer and closer.

“What they will do is close down spaces and try to threaten us in different ways and I think it’s going to be a hard game, so we have to be on top.”

Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 5.30pm on Sunday evening.
