Who The Hell Actually Wants to Manage Rangers?

At this point, you really have to wonder—who in their right mind actually wants to manage Rangers Football Club? The club is in utter disarray from boardroom to bootroom, and the recent string of rejections makes it clear that this job has become one of the most poisoned chalices in British football.
The real issue? No one of any credibility seems to believe in the project. And why should they? There’s no structure, no vision, and no confidence in the board’s long-term plan. The squad is bloated with players who either aren’t good enough or don’t want to be there. Whoever comes in will inherit a mess, be expected to fix it immediately, win the league, qualify for the Champions League, and do it all on a shoestring budget.
Because let’s be honest—what can the Rangers board even afford? They’re not going to splash £4m a year on a Graham Potter or a Jesse Marsch. They couldn’t even tempt Ancelotti’s lad, and he’s never had a senior managerial job. We’re talking about free agents, lower-league punts, or another Philippe Clement-style gamble. Managers like Kevin Muscat or Frank Lampard are being mentioned, but these names are either unrealistic financially or already turned us down before.
It’s an impossible task. The expectation is colossal, the backing is minimal, and the fanbase has zero patience left after years of mismanagement. No self-respecting manager wants to walk into a club with a fractured boardroom, a divided support, and a squad needing a complete overhaul.
In short, Rangers are stuck. There’s no clear candidate, no real money, and no coherent plan. And unless something radical changes, they’ll end up with another underwhelming appointment fans never wanted.
That’s not a project. That’s a job centre listing.
A worrying signal for supporters, and not a position any top coach is rushing to fill.
