World Cup-winning Atletico Madrid striker could have a part to play in the upcoming Barcelona elections – Report | OneFootball

There is always a need at FC Barcelona to bring together the best players in world football. After all, as a club with such high prestige and a gloried past, La Blaugrana need to portray themselves accordingly. Even with financial restrictions, Barcelona continue to manage it.

As of right now, the currently assembled squad is in a very good moment and the players look to be working well together. Still in contention for three major titles this season, the nearest of which is the Copa del Rey final in a few hours, Barcelona look much stronger than they have in recent years.

However, there is still a need to look ahead to the future and plan accordingly. Robert Lewandowski, for instance, is no longer a long-term guarantee and at the age of 36, there is simply no guaranteeing just how much longer he can sustain an elite level for Barça. Currently injured, his overall fitness could also start to potentially deteriorate.

For that reason, but also potentially for another crucial cause, a certain Atletico Madrid striker is reportedly being eyed by Barcelona. That player would be none other than Argentinian forward Julian Alvarez, and MARCA suggest that he could even have a big role to play in the club’s upcoming elections.

Often times, presidential candidates make bold claims and promises that they aspire to deliver on if they are made the president of any given top club. At Barcelona, perhaps the potential signing of a FIFA World Cup winner like Alvarez could make him a massive lure for the elections.

A brilliant talent in his own right, Alvarez has established himself as one of the most impactful signings over the course of this season. Undeniably a good goalscorer, he has now adapted well to La Liga and Atletico Madrid in particular.

Unfortunately for Barcelona, however, Atletico Madrid reportedly have no intention to make it easy for them to sign the 25-year-old player. He is seen as a valuable asset within Diego Simeone’s plans, and it would be a long and hard fight for the Catalan giants if they want to end up luring him away.
