3437 days after Kylian Mbappé (25) made his professional debut for Monaco, he finally scored the first free kick of his career during the Copa Del Rey final between Real Madrid and Barcelona on Saturday evening. Although the goal wouldn’t mean all that much, given that Barcelona would eventually win the trophy, the goal had a much bigger meaning.

An X, formerly Twitter, account dedicated to the France captain’s lack of free kick goals has amassed an impressive following on the social media platform whilst documenting the number of days it’s taken for Mbappé to find the back of the net from a free kick. After the Frenchman found the back of the net, a tweet posted by the account amassed over 16 million impressions.

The social media account continuously posted every day until the Real Madrid attacker scored from a set piece, and that eventuality came to fruition on Saturday evening. Following Mbappé’s free kick against Barcelona, the account has confirmed that it will close with a tweet using Xabi Alonso’s iconic retirement photo.
