Lewis Ambrose·31 January 2023
It is January 31 and that can only mean one thing. Here are our biggest January deadline day stories to look out for âŠ
The Athletic say Chelsea âinsistâ on signing Enzo FernĂĄndez from Benfica before the window shuts and the Blues have reportedly bid âŹ120m for the World Cup winner.
Benfica boss Roger Schmidt did anything but deny a move could happen when speaking on Monday.
âIâve said it several times, Enzo FernĂĄndez is our player and has our support.
âI already said that while the window is open, we have to be prepared for all possibilities.â
Watch this space.
The Gunners keep bidding for the midfielder but Brighton have stood firm so far. Will the Premier League leaders meet Brightonâs asking price?
If not, then a bid for Chelseaâs Jorginho has been mooted
Speaking of Arsenal, they lodged a âworld recordâ bid for Manchester United striker Alessia Russo on Monday and have been linked with Lyonâs Signe Bruun.
They want a forward to aid their bids for the Womenâs Super League and Womenâs Champions League trophies.
With JoĂŁo Cancelo on his way to Bayern Munich, Manchester City look a bit thin at left-back now.
Raphaël Guerreiro has been linked before and did not feature for Borussia Dortmund at the weekend. The question is whether or not City stick or twist.
Sean Dyche has arrived and Everton have reportedly launched a huge offer for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
Now we wonder whether a deal can be struck and whether that will be the last of the Toffeesâ deadline day tilts for their new boss.
One to watch from the continent â five-time Champions League winner and free agent Isco is said to have agreed a sensational move to Union Berlin.
And thatâs despite RB Leipzig showing some late interest.
All January long Sofyan Amrabat has waited for a move after his stellar World Cup and Mundo Deportivo now claim a loan big from Barcelona is set to be accepted.
After Bournemouth bid for NicolĂČ Zaniolo, anything seems viable to Premier League clubs right now.
The same Bournemouth who now look set to sign defenders MatĂas Viña and Ilya Zabarnyi, by the way.
Will any other big names be linked with, or even end up at, some of the clubs at the wrong end of the English top flight?
Weston McKennie has completed a move to Leeds on loan and Juventus likely cannot afford to turn down big money for other players if bids come in. And they have no lofty aims for the rest of the season anyway having dropped to 13th in Serie A after a 15-point deduction.
On the other hand, maybe they will go all in for Europa League glory ⊠unlikely as that seems right now.
If offers arrive, Juve could be tempted to let some big names go.
On, then off, then on again, then off again. Then in the balance and now on again.
Spurs have never given up on Pedro Porro and it seems that deal is going to get done, allowing Djed Spence to join Rennes on loan.
Plenty of players are out of contract in the summer and clubs have one more opportunity to cash in.
Some big names could be involved here. Think Milan Skriniar (Inter), Youri Tielemans (Leicester), Marcus Thuram (Borussia Mâgladbach), Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace), Daichi Kamada (Frankfurt), Marco Asensio (Real Madrid), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus), Houssem Aouar (Lyon), Alejandro Grimaldo (Benfica).
Can they resist? Having signed 24th players since promotion, we cannot rule out another after the prospective addition of Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle makes it 25.
Who saw that JoĂŁo Cancelo update coming on Monday?
Anything can happen!
