Prior to this afternoon's clash, Borussia Dortmund had been waiting longer for a point against VfB Stuttgart than any other side in the Bundesliga.
In the highest scoring fixture in Bundesliga history, it was the hosts who controlled possession in the first half, however, Stuttgart's Deniz Undav will be wondering what went wrong with his huge squandered chance in the 37th minute.
Recieving a chorus of boos from the travelling Swabian contingent, ex-Stuttgart captain Waldemar Anton's poor pass back to Gregor Kobel sent Undav one on one, however the German international failed to make his mind up, before his attemt to round goalkeeper Kobel was brought to an end by Emre Can.
Just five minutes into the second half, there was more egg on the face of Anton, as he deflected a Chris Führich cross into the back of his own net, sending the eight thousand travelling supporters bonkers.
Looking to complete a league double against Dortmund for the second season in a row, Die Schwaben doubled their lead in the 61st minute thanks to an excellent volley from defender Jeff Chabot, who netted his first goal in German football to strengthen the visitors' grip on the encounter.
A deflected effort from Jamie Gittens forced an impressively strong hand from Alexander Nübel to keep the hosts out, and a subsequent impressive recovery from Ramon Hendriks saw the Dutchman put himself on the line to keep VfB's lead at two goals to nil.
BVB did manage to claw themselves back into the game in the 81st minute, after Julian Brandt's effort from the left-hand side of the box flew through a sea of bodies before passing Nübel and nestling into the bottom corner.
With six minutes of additional time to rescue a result, Julian Ryerson saw red for the hosts, being sent off following a clash in the middle of the park with Angelo Stiller.
After a woeful late freekick from Brandt sailed into BVB's Yellow Wall, Stuttgart held on to secure another fantastic victory against Die Schwarzelben, moving back up into the top four ahead of Leipzig's clash against St. Pauli on Sunday afternoon.
Chasing their first away win since the arrival of manager Steffen Baumgart over the winter, it was Union Berlin who got off to a perfect start on the road in Sinsheim.
In the 24th minute, striker Benedict Hollerbach was able to send the ball home via a volley with the inside of his left foot, latching onto the ball first after Hoffenheim goalkeeper Luca Phillip denied Tim Skarke from close range. With Die Eisernen chasing success on the road, Hollerbach's fifth of the season was the first goal scored by Union away from home since Baumgart took the job.
And after waiting so long for one goal on the road, Baumgart's men found a second 15 minutes into the second half. With Hoffenheim at sixes and sevens defensively, Marin Ljubicic doubled Union's lead after being played through calmly by Jeong Woo-Yeong, causing an eruption of noise inside the away end containing the travelling supporters from Köpenick.
A deflected effort from Jamie Gittens forced an impressively strong hand from Alexander Nübel to keep the hosts out, and a subsequent impressive recovery from Ramon Hendriks saw the Dutchman put himself on the line to keep VfB's lead at two goals to nil.
Proceedings went on to get even better for the visitors, who put themselves completely in cruise control in the 73rd minute, when Andrej Ilic sent the ball home after a Lucas Tousart ball to add a undreamt of third for Union.
With the visitors still in dreamland, Benedict Hollerbach added a second to his tally in the 87th minute to secure a fantastic victory for Union Berlin, which sees the club rise to 13th, nine points clear of relegation trouble.
Freiburg got themselve back on track last time out against Bochum after a poor start to 2025, a chance for three points on home soil now for Schusters side.
Grifo gives Freiburg the lead in the 30th minute after a magic run, link up with Höler and cross to his wing partner. All Grifo had to do was keep the ball on target, and that he did.
After getting themselves back on track last time out against Bochum, Freiburg looked for their first home win of 2025 as they hosted fellow Baden-Württemberger's Heidenheim.
Whilst it was not the most scintillating first-half display from the hosts, Julian Schuster's men took the lead on the half-hour mark as Freiburg's trusty widemen linked up.
A magic run from Ritsu Doan, and subsequent 1-2 with Lucas Höler came to an end when the Japanese winger floated an excellent ball into Vincenzo Grifo, who had the task of simply keeping the ball on target. He did exactly that, giving his side a 1-0 lead at Europa-Park Stadion.
In a run-of-the-mill second half, Freiburg secured a second consecutive 1-0 victory, this time on home soil, that sees the club rise back into a European qualification position, whilst Heidenheim remain fully bolted in 16th place, four points away from escaping the relegation playoff position.
After the champions were given a scare in midweek against local rivals Köln, they were given another just six minutes in at the Volkswagen Arena, when Wolfsburg's Konstantinos Koulierakis headed home inside the box, getting onto the end of a Mattias Svanberg freekick.
However, the fantastic noise provided by Wolfsburg's home support was soon silenced when a VAR check chalked off the goal due to Koulierakis being in an offside position.
Die Wölfe did continue to have the better of things throughout the first half, though, continuing to make things difficult for the reigning champions.
Xabi Alonso reacted as the second half commenced, with Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong both entering the fold after starting on the bench.
It was Leverkusen's talisman Wirtz who continued to make the difference for his side as the game reached its closing stages.
However, the visitors simply didn't have enough to find a late winner as they so often do. After midweek ecstasy, the champions suffered a huge setback on their travels that sees them now eight points behind Bayern München ahead of their fast-approaching season-defining clash next weekend.
In this afternoon's clash at Mewa Arena, Mainz and Augsburg continued to cancel each other out throughout the first half, with the most notable incident being a stoppage involving the official's communication channels, bringing the encounter to a temporary halt.
The match remained on a knife edge for large periods of both halves, as both sides failed to really break the other down. The match itself however, was indicative of the respective form of Mainz and Augsburg, who have turned into a tricky test for sides across the Bundesliga.
Augsburg came agonisingly close to finding a goal in the 85th minute when a scramble in the box forced a remarkable effort from Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner to keep the ball out.
With the game petering out, eventually ending in a scoreless draw, Mainz see themselves drop to 7th thanks to Freiburg's win against Heidenheim, whilst Augsburg stay 12th.
Die Nullfünfer now prepare for a trip to Heidenheim next weekend, where they aim to get back on track in their quest for European football.
