There were only two major reinforcements brought to the Real Madrid squad in the last summer transfer window. Without any doubt, the more notable of these additions was that of the French World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappe, who finally arrived at the white club after a pursuit that went on for several years.
He was accompanied by the Brazilian starlet Endrick, who, although not yet a name as big as Mbappe, still came with a lot of expectations and generated a lot of excitement among the Merengue fans.
However, his first half-season at Real Madrid has not exactly gone according to expectations. Carlo Ancelotti gave him some minutes earlier in the season, but his time on the pitch dried up as the weeks went by, and things were not looking too good for him at the end of the last year.
The new year came with a new opportunity for the Brazilian, as Los Blancos started their Copa del Rey campaign with a game against Deportivo Minera. Ancelotti decided to start Endrick, with a host of other bench players and youngsters, and his team was able to get the job done in spectacular fashion.
Real Madrid emerged victorious with a 5-0 victory, with Arda Guler scoring a brace, and Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Luka Modric also getting on the scoresheet.
Meanwhile, Endrick was unable to finish the chances that came his way, missing 3 big chances on the night, but still showed very encouraging signs in this game.
He got into some good attacking positions and was able to shoot 6 times, and his accuracy was top-notch as none of these shots went off target. According to Sofascore, the Brazilian forced the opposition goalkeeper to make saves with 5 of these shots, while 1 of them was blocked by a defender.
Overall, he got 56 touches on the ball in this game, and also contributed well to the buildup phase with his 82% passing accuracy rate, completing 27 of his 33 passes, most of them in the opposition area. He put in 4 key passes, but neither of these passes was converted into an assist by his teammates.
Endrick also showed his usual tenacity in this match, winning 9 of his 14 ground duels and also making 2 tackles. However, he also lost the ball 12 times, and thus he needs to work on retaining possession, improving passing accuracy, and finishing the chances that come his way.
But despite these weaknesses, there is no doubt that this was an encouraging display from the Brazilian, who can come in handy for Real Madrid in this crucial second half of the season.
