FLW outline two players who could follow Dara O'Shea out of the exit door before the transfer deadline.

Brentford, Ipswich Town, and Wolves are all keen on signing Burnley and Republic of Ireland defender Dara O'Shea, which would give the ex-West Brom man an immediate route back to the Premier League.

Ipswich Town have raised their interest in the 25-year-old and are ready to table an offer, according to Alan Nixon via Patreon, who has said that the Tractor Boys are chasing a £10 million deal for the centre-back.

He has also been linked with a move to Brentford this summer. According to The Telegraph, Thomas Frank is set to bolster his defence for the season with O'Shea, who was on the scoresheet in the Clarets' opening game of the Championship season in a 4-1 success over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Following relegation with Burnley last season in his first year at Turf Moor, the 26-cap Irish international is set for a move back to the top flight, just 14 months after a £7 million move from West Bromwich Albion. It had previously been reported by Football Insider that the Irishman had rejected a transfer to Ipswich in favour of a switch to the Bees.

However, a bid is yet to be received by Burnley from Brentford, perhaps opening the door to Ipswich and others. John Percy of The Telegraph has said that Wolves see the centre of defence as a priority position for them this summer after they lost Max Kilman to West Ham United in a deal worth £40 million, and O'Shea is one of the players high on their hit list.

Although it is unclear where exactly, his future appears to lie elsewhere and O'Shea also may not be the final player out of the Turf Moor exit door in the final days of the window. Here, we take a look at two other players who could be in line for a departure as the deadline looms ever closer.

1 Manuel Benson

Burnley have a fairly bloated squad at present, particularly in wide attacking areas. That could see one or two of their wingers and wide forwards depart before the deadline, including Manuel Benson.

In some ways, it is a strong position to be in and a good problem for Scott Parker to have an embarrassment of riches, but the focus is now on moving players on to ensure that Parker is working with a suitable-sized squad for what all expect to be another promotion push for the Clarets.

Benson, came close to joining Leeds on loan last season, after failing to have an impact in the Premier League with Burnley. Now, he has once again been targeted by the West Yorkshire-based club, according to Daily Express journalist Charlie Gordon.

Benson saw out the season with Vincent Kompany's side, despite featuring just eight times. However, in the Championship, the 27-year-old was a huge success, playing 33 games and scoring 12 goals.

The issue is that signings made last summer meant his game time was limited last season. Gordon also believes the player is keen to win more game time, having failed to feature that much in the past year. Leeds, the Canaries, and Sunderland all have a "concrete" interest in Benson at this stage of the window.

Aaron Ramsey, Mike Trésor, Anass Zaroury, Luca Koleosho, and Nathan Redmond are among the players competing on the flanks, and that should see Benson move on before the end of the window, having been an unused substitute in both of the opening games of the season.

Wout Weghorst is another player who would not be missed, as he has not featured for the club in the past two seasons, despite being a good player by Championship standards on paper.

You only have to see the impact that the target man has made for his country in recent major international tournaments to recognise he does have quality. It was therefore a real surprise to see Weghorst come off the bench in the emphatic 4-1 win at Luton on opening weekend, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.

Weghorst entered the pitch even earlier during the 5-0 thumping of Cardiff City as well, but a player of his pedigree and quality belongs at a higher level, even at the age of 32.

Clarets boss Scott Parker was quoted by The Irish News as saying: "(Weghorst’s future) is probably still to be decided at this moment in time. He’s been here for a week and I’ve nothing but admiration for him as a man, how he’s come in, massive professional. He’s been hugely committed, hence why we used him tonight."

Weghorst is under contract till the end of this season, so the Clarets are running out of time to recapture some of the £12 million they spent on him in January 2022. He has proven a success in the Bundesliga in the past, whilst Burnley are also well stocked in the centre-forward department as well.

That combination of factors could see him leave in the near future. Lyle Foster, Zeki Amdouni, Michael Obafemi, Jay Rodriguez, and Andreas Hountondji give Parker a wealth of striking options. With Burnley also needing to trim the wage bill, Weghorst is an obvious way to free up space.

The Dutchman might believe he has more to offer than the Championship, too, even though he's yet to compete in the division. With his build and his ability to bully defenders, he could potentially compete at a higher level, even if much of his skill-set is suited to the second tier.

The likes of Ajax, FC Twente and Trabzonspor have all been linked with a permanent move for Weghorst this season, but nothing has been agreed. Ajax have been the frontrunners for his signature, and they appear desperate to sign the Dutchman.

However, a recent report from De Telegraaf states that the side from Amsterdam will need to sell players currently at the club to sign players, meaning a deal for Weghorst isn't imminent.
