Atletico Madrid spent a lot of money during the summer, as the likes of Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher and Alexander Sorloth were brought to the Metropolitano. This spending spree has meant that the club’s bank balance is low, although it has been been somewhat replenished.
In August, Atleti agreed a deal with RB Leipzig for Arthur Vermeeren. The Belgian midfielder had only arrived from Royal Antwerp in January, but he was sent to Germany on an initial loan, although a buy clause was also included.
As per MD, that buy clause, which is worth €20m, became mandatory when Vermeeren reached 20 appearances, and that happened on Friday in Leipzig’s match against Borussia Dortmund. As such, a deal has now become permanent.
This money will be used by Atletico Madrid to balance their books, although it could also be used towards signings in 2025. It remains to be seen how it is utilised.
